Authorities have confirmed that a teen was shot in the leg after being caught in the crossfire of a gun battle south of the border in Reynosa.

It all happened in the Colonia Balcones de Alcala near Reynosa's southern city limits on Tuesday afternoon.

Resident used the #reynosafollow hashtag on the social media outlet to report the shootout and blockades throughout the city.

Tamaulipas State Police confirmed that a shootout took place between rival criminal groups.

Authorities reported that a 16-year-old innocent bystander was shot in the leg by a stray bullet.

The teen was taken to a local hospital where authorities reported the 16-year-old was in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury.

CD. VICTORIA, Tamaulipas.- La Procuraduría General de Justicia y la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Estado comunican que este martes 19 de marzo, a las 17:30 horas, en la ciudad de Reynosa se reportaron enfrentamientos entre grupos de civiles armados, provocando bloqueo de calles y saldo de una persona herida, una joven ajena a los hechos.

El Ministerio Público del Fuero Común, al integrar la averiguación previa correspondiente a la víctima de 16 años de edad, dio fe que recibió un balazo en una pierna, siendo internada en un hospital del Seguro Social para su atención médica. Es reportada estable, fuera de peligro.

Los hechos se registraron en diversas calles de la colonia Balcones de Alcalá y para impedir la intervención de las fuerzas de seguridad, los grupos de civiles armados provocaron los bloqueos.

La Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, Policía Federal, Policía Estatal Acreditable y Policía Ministerial se coordinaron y actuaron para restablecer el orden en ese sector de la ciudad fronteriza.
