Two men are behind bars after being accused of stealing more than 700 gallons of diesel fuel from a supermarket gas station in Mission.

Mission police arrested both Juan Angel Mendoza and Humberto Taverna on felony theft charges.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the two men stole 700 gallons of diesel from a gas station at a local HEB supermarket.

Mendoza claims he owns a trucking company and paid for the fuel but investigators said his credit card was flagged for fraudulent use.

With diesel prices averaging $3.75 per gallon in the Mission area, the men are accused of stealing more than $2,600 dollars in fuel.

Both men faced a judge on Wednesday morning where Mendoza was issued a $200,000 dollar bond and Taverna was issued a $100,000 dollar bond.

U.S. Secret Service agents are becoming involved in the investigation due to similar crimes in the San Antonio area.
