Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on a South Padre Island beach.

It all happened at Beach Access 5 around 9:50 a.m. Monday.

Cameron County Interim Parks Police Chief Silver Cisneros spoke to Action 4 News about the investigation.

Chief Cisneros said investigators believe the body had been at sea for at least three weeks before washing up on shore.

The body was reported to be in an advanced state of decomposition leaving the man's face unrecognizable.

Chief Cisneros said the discovery comes a few weeks after a Mexican national washed up on a nearby beach.

Investigators believe that the man whose body was found on Monday may also be a Mexican national.

Authorities plan to use forensic testing to learn the man's identity and the cause of his death.

This is the fifth body found on South Padre Island in the past six months.
