Mother, child killed in accident near Alton

Authorities are investigating an accident that claimed the life of a woman and her 11-month-old son just northwest of Alton.

It all happened off Moorefield Road and Mile 7 North around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the accident.

State troopers told Action 4 News that a woman, her son and another woman were in a Volkswagen Jetta headed north on Moorefield Road.

Investigators said woman was trying to pass another car when she collided head on with a truck in the sounbound lane.

The impact of the crash reported killed woman driver at the scene.

State troopers reported that her 11-month-old son's car seat was not properly restrained and flew into the front seat.

Paramedics transported the woman's adult passenger and the child to the hospital but 11-month-old later died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck spent hours in the hospital before dying from his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
