PEORIA, IL -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men’s basketball team fell to the Bradley University Braves 78-61 on Monday at Renaissance Coliseum.

Senior guards Aaron Urbanus and Brandon Provost led the Broncs (0-2) with 14 points each. Urbanus hit three three-pointers while tying for the team-high in assists with five. Provost brought in five rebounds and three assists as well. Freshman forward Shaquille Hines made his first appearance in the starting lineup, scoring eight points on 4-of-8 shooting to go with five rebounds and five blocked shots. Sophomore forward Lauri Toivonen also had a solid defensive game, racking up seven rebounds (three offensive) and two steals.

Will Egolf led four Braves (2-0) in double-figures with 14 points while hitting all three of his attempts from behind the arc. Walt Lemon Jr. also scored 14 points with a game-high six assists and three steals. Dyricus Simms-Edwards scored 11 points with seven rebounds, four assists and a game-high four steals. Jake Eastman scored 10 points with four assists as well.

The game was tight in the early going. The Braves scored the first five points of the game, but the Broncs came back to tie it for the first time on a jumper by Hines and a three by Provost that made it 12-12 4:59 into the game.

The Broncs were within 21-20 with 5:57 remaining in the first half after a DeMarko Nash jumper, but Shayok Shayok bookended a 14-2 run with jumpers to put the Braves ahead 35-22 just over four minutes later.

Urbanus hit a three with 5:02 left in the game to bring the Broncs with 63-52, but that’s as close as they got.

The Broncs open up the EMU “Ice Man” Classic on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when they face Rochester College.
