Roadrunners Take 1st Win Of Season

Edinburg 9, Abilene 7

 The Edinburg Roadrunners used 14 hits to get their first win of the season defeating the Abilene Prairie Dogs 9-7 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.


The Roadrunners (1-1) got on the board in the bottom of the first against Braden Tullis. Wilmer Pino reached on fielding error then stole second base. Vincent Blue then followed with an RBI single to center field scoring Pino from second. After moving to third on a single by Cristobal Santana, Blue came into score on a double play off the bat of Tim Battle that made it 2-0.


Nick Ochoa tied thing at two in the top of the second with a two-run homerun off of Edinburg starter Dave Dinelli.


In the bottom of the third, Edinburg took the lead with an RBI single by Santana that scored Pino from second making it 3-2.


The Prairie Dogs (1-1) then grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth. After back-to-back singles, Reggie Williams hit into an RBI fielder’s choice that allowed Joe Weik to score. One out later, Bryan Fogle hit an RBI single that scored Williams to make it 4-3 Abilene.


The Roadrunners then answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single by Osiel Flores that gave them the 5-4 lead.

After Abilene tied things at five in the top of the sixth, Edinburg regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Carlos Hereaud and Stantrel Smith started the inning with singles that put runners on the corners. After Smith stole second, Derek Perren hit a two-run double to right field. Jose Mendoza then drove in Perren from third with an RBI groundout that made the score 8-5.


A two-run double by Weik in the top of the seventh cut the Roadrunners lead to 8-7.


With runners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh inning, a throwing error by Gunner Glad allowed Blue to score extending Edinburg’s lead 9-7.


Julio Castro came in to pitch a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season giving the Roadrunners the 9-7 victory.


Stefan Comeaux (1-0) got the win after pitching an inning and two-thirds in relief. Chris Peacock (0-1) got the loss for the Prairie Dogs after allowing three runs in an inning of work.
