Broncs 4, Huskies 0

EDINBURG, TX -- Senior Jonathan Sa pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the Houston Baptist University Huskies 4-0 on Thursday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Sa (4-2) retired the first 13 batters he faced on five strikeouts, three groundouts, four pop-outs and one fly-out. Curtis Jones walked with one out in the fifth to become the first Huskies (22-29, 13-11 GWC) base runner. The Huskies didn’t get their first hit until the sixth, a leadoff single by Garrett Tully.

Sa recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in a career-high nine innings of work. It was his fourth-straight complete game in conference play and second shutout in three starts.

The Broncs (27-18, 14-10 GWC) got on the board right away against Dalton Schafer (4-8). With two outs in the first, Chris Torres reached on a two-base error and scored on an RBI-double by Vincent Mejia.

In the second, the Broncs loaded the bases with one out. Mission-native Angel Ibanez hit a sacrifice fly and Roger Bernal hit an RBI-single to make it 3-0.

That was it until the seventh, when Ibanez launched his second home run of the season over the right field wall.
