A large crowd came out in support of the UTPA Athletics Scholarship Fund by purchasing tickets to watch the Texas Legends Cowboys Stars beat the UTPA All-Stars 75-57 on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

EDINBURG, TX --

The Texas Legends Cowboys Stars were led by cornerback Brandon Carr, who scored the first seven points for his team. Despite his early outburst, the UTPA All-Stars had an early lead. UTPA alumni Lalo Rios (1995-99), and Gabe Valdez (1987-91) each hit three-pointers and Matt Palmquist (1996-00) hit a lay-up to put the UTPA All-Stars up 8-7.

Kevin Mitchell (2001-03) gave the UTPA All-Stars their last lead late in the first quarter by hitting a pair of free throws to make it 18-17.

The Texas Legends Cowboys Stars took over from there as wide receiver Jesse Holley was red-hot from behind the arc and fellow wide receiver Teddy Williams showed off his vertical leap with a dunk to help push the game out of reach.

The UTPA All-Stars team included community leaders such as McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez, Edinburg City Council Members Gus Garcia, Elias Longoria and Homer Jasso and UTPA alum and Executive Vice President of Enriquez Enterprises Gilbert Enriquez. There were also several members of the Edinburg Police and Fire Departments on the team.
