BROWNSVILLE, TX -- UTB/TSC staged rallies in the late innings in both the 6-3 and 4-1 doubleheader wins over Huston-Tillotson University Friday night at Scorpion Field.

With the wins, UTB/TSC is now 13-6 overall and 8-0 in Red River Athletic Conference games. HTU is 2-5 and 0-3.

The two teams play another doubleheader at 12 noon Saturday. The first game will be a nine-inning conference game while the second will be a seven-inning non-conference game.

Scorpions 6, Rams 3 (first game)

Rory Young went the first six innings for his third win of the year without a loss. Kale Wierenga pitched the seventh inning to record his second save.

UTB/TSC trailed early, 2-0, before Zach Cordia got the offense untracked with his fourth homer of the season. The Scorpions tied the game in the fifth, 2-2, but HTU regained the lead in the top of the sixth, 3-2. UTB/TSC then scored four runs in the sixth to regain the lead for good.

Cordia had two of the seven Scorpion hits, and scored twice. Brad Regehr also scored twice in running duties for catcher Gus Henggeler.

Scorpions 4, Rams 1 (second game)

Marcos de Leon (3-1) threw 112 pitches in eight strong innings, striking out 11 batters and walking three. He allowed only four hits, and the single run he allowed was unearned. Matt Leffler pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save.

UTB/TSC scored twice in the first inning and held the 2-0 lead until the sixth. HTU scored its lone unearned run in the sixth, yet the game remained tight until the bottom of the eighth. Gus Henggeler iced the game with a bases-loaded two-run single down the left field line to make it 4-1.

The Scorpions had only six hits, two by Colby Henscey, who also scored twice.
