HIDALGO, TX -- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers netted a season high 18 three-pointers on Wednesday morning en-route to a 134-108 matinee victory over the defending NBA Development League Champion Iowa Energy. The Vipers improve to 3-0 on the season while the Energy have now lost two straight to fall to 1-2 on the year.

The Vipers, who have been getting off to hot starts in every game of their season opening four game home-stand, did it again on Wednesday morning. A Terrel Harris trey capped a game opening 15-2 run for Rio Grande Valley. The Vipers outscored Iowa 38-24 in the first 12 minutes.

The Energy re-charged in the second period. Moses Ehambe started the Iowa scoring with a three-pointer to kick off an 11-2 run to pull the Energy back within five at 40-35 with 8:48 to play until halftime. Jay-R Strowbridge’s three-pointer with 7:00 remaining in the second pushed the Viper lead back up to 10 at 50-40. The Energy surged with a 16-5 run, capped off by a Brandon Ewing jumper at the 1:49 mark to give Iowa a 56-55 lead, their first and only lead of the game. Harris answered back with a trey for RGV to take back the lead for good.

In the third quarter the Energy pulled to within one at 76-75 after a Nick Murphy lay-up at the 6:30 mark. The Vipers followed up by closing out the quarter on a 20-7 run to lead 96-82 at the end of three quarters. The Vipers outscored Iowa 38-26 in the fourth quarter to close out the victory.

Harris and Kelvin Lewis, who made five three-pointers on Wednesday, each poured in 21 points to lead for the Vipers. Harris added six rebounds and three assists. Tyren Johnson chipped in with 20 points and nine boards. Long-time Viper Stan Asumnu chipped in with 17 points and five rebounds. Strowbridge was threatening for a triple-double with his 12 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.

Jarrid Famous was solid in the post for the Energy as scored a game-high 33 points with 15 rebounds for the game’s lone double-double. Ehambe and Murphy each scored 18 to pitch in for the Energy.

The Vipers will wrap up their season opening four game home-stand on Thursday when they host the Energy again. Thursday’s match-up between the two clubs will tip-off at the normal 7:00 PM start time. It will be the final regular season match-up between the two teams.
