Arkansas-Pine Bluff 69, Texas-Pan American 58

EDINBURG, TX -- The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program dropped a 69-58 decision to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions this Tuesday (Dec. 1) afternoon at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The loss drops the Lady Broncs to 0-7 for the season and improves the Golden Lions to 1-5 for the season.

Freshman Bianca Torre recorded her third game of 20-plus points along with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Rose Esther Jean was the only other Lady Bronc in double-figures as she scored 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal.

As a team, the Lady Broncs shot 30 percent from the field, including 27 percent from three-point range. UTPA out-shot Arkansas-Pine Bluff from the line as the Lady Broncs shot for 74 percent compared to UAPB's 65 percent.

In the first, the Lady Broncs led up until the 13:16 mark as the Golden Lions shot for three to tie the score. Heading into the half, UTPA trailed by one as Bianca Torre stole the ball on an in-bound pass by Tashayla Jackson to score two on a layup right before the buzzer.

UTPA was able to gain a hold of their once held lead and maintained it until the 8:05 mark in the second as Shayla Holmes scored two for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Lekevia Brown was the Golden Lions leading scorer as she scored 27 points and grabbed five rebounds along with an assist, and one steal.

Next up for the Lady Broncs is the Rice Tournament in Houston, Texas this Friday, Dec. 4. The Lady Broncs are slated to face Rice in their first game of the tournament.
