LA JOYA, TX -- La Joya Coyotes pitcher Miguel "Mickey" Pena was drafted by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

Pena was taken by the Nationals with the 1st pick in the 5th round, 142nd pick overall.

Pena was a 4-year starter for the Coyotes, averaging 100 strikeouts per season. The lefty racked up 28 wins and a sub-one ERA over that span. Next up for Mickey and the Nats, negotiations, with hopefully a contract and an assignment to a rookie league team to follow.

In his senior year, Pena had some mid-season problems, but the way he overcame them impressed the Washington scouts.
