AUSTIN, TX -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team issued three walks to the University of Texas Longhorns, and they all led to early runs in a 6-1 loss on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (7-5) struck right away against Broncs (2-7) starter Sam Street (2-1). Weston Hall drew a leadoff four-pitch walk and Cohl Walla was plunked. Erich Weiss followed with an RBI-single to make it 1-0. A Mark Payton single then loaded the bases, but Street got CJ Hinojosa to bounce into a fielder’s choice before striking out Jeremy Montalbano and getting Jacob Felts to groundout to escape the threat.

Street got the first two outs quickly in the second, but back-to-back walks led to a two-run double by Weiss to make it 3-0.

Weiss finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Street settled down after that, allowing just one hit over his final four and a third innings. In total, Street struck out four in six innings while allowing four hits and three walks.

The Broncs put runners in scoring position in each of the first four innings, and finally broke through against Chad Hollingsworth (3-0) in the fourth. With runners on the corners and one out, Chris Torres hit a slow ground ball to second. Brooks Marlow tried to turn two, but the relay throw to first wasn’t in time, allowing Will Klausing to score to make it 3-1.

That was it against Hollingsworth, who allowed six hits and one walk while striking out one in five innings.

The Longhorns put it away by scoring three unearned runs in the eighth, the last two of which came on a two-run home run by Marlow.

In his first-career start, PSJA High School alum Bryan Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a single as the designated hitter batting second.

The Broncs outhit the Longhorns 9-to-5, but stranded nine base runners while going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The Longhorns stranded seven, but went 4-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

The Broncs are back in action on Friday at 3:00 p.m. when they open up a three-game series at Wichita State. The last time the Broncs and Shockers met was in 1983. The Shockers, who were the defending NCAA Champions, were ranked No. 1 at the time. The Broncs took three out of four in Wichita en route to a program-record 64-win season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals.
