Gilbert Leal with Harlingen Economic Development Corporation said they are pleased with the ranking.

It’s the third year in a row Harlingen has been ranked as the Cheapest City in the United States to live in.

“Consistently being able to boast a cost of living of approximately 20 percent below the national average is useful in our economic development efforts since a low cost of living is an indication of a low cost of doing business,” Leal said in a statement.

Data from the 2010 Census moved Harlingen down from the third largest city in the Valley to the sixth largest city.
