Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for a 2-year-old girl taken in the Texas Panhandle by a man posing as a social worker.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials issued the alert on Tuesday afternoon.

The alert was also distributed by several cell phone companies as an alert.

Investigators reported that the 2-year-old Leah Marie Aguirre was taken from a home in Crosbyton, which is located east of Lubbock.

KLBK-TV reported that the little girl has been missing since Thursday, January 3rd.

The Lubbock-based TV station reported that a man who only identified himself as "Miguel" posed as a worker from Child Protective Services and took the girl.

Crosby County Sheriff's deputies told KLBK-TV they are investigating whether or not the child's mother had been trying to sell the baby to someone in Mexico.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crosbyton Police Department at (806) 675-7301.
