An officer-involved shooting in Rio Grande City has left a suspect hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

Action 4 News has learned at around 1am Friday morning, police were called out to a suspicious vehicle parked at a cemetery off of Fairground and Canales road.

The officer found the vehicle and approached a man, who appeared to be nervous. That’s when the suspect pulled out a gun and started shooting at the officer while he was running away.

The officer returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.

While the officer was not harmed, the suspect was taken to McAllen Medical Center and has since been airlifted to San Antonio.

The case has now been turned over to the Texas Rangers for further investigation.

Action 4 News will bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
