Authorities have identified the suspect in a courthouse shooting in Delaware as a man from the Rio Grande Valley.

Delaware State Police confirm 68-year-old Thomas S. Matusiewicz was the suspect.

The Edcouch man is believed to have shot and killed his 39-year-old daughter-in-law Christine Belford and her 47-year-old neighbor Laura Mulford on Monday.

Matusiewicz walked into the New Castle Courthouse in Wilmington, Delware opening fire on Beldford and Mulford before he passed through the metal detectors.

Investigators said a bitter custody battle is the reported motive for the shooting.

On Tuesday, an Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputy was on guard outside the home off FM 1015 just outside Edcouch city limits.

Sheriff Lupe Trevino did not elaborate as to why the deputy was there.

Delware State Police told Action 4 News an autopsy was performed on Matusiewicz Tuesday morning to determine his cause of death.

Investigators say Matusiewicz also open fire on police, so they are unsure if he took his own life or was killed
