A La Feria man is behind bars after being accused of sexually abusing a girl and giving her a sexually-transmitted disease.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Guadalupe Hernandez on a sexual abuse charge last Thursday.

Hernandez is accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl since she was 9 nine years old.

Court records released on Wednesday show that the girl made an outcry back in December.

The girl told her mother that the latest incident happened when she was picking grapefruit at an orchard off Cantu Road just north of Mile 8 on November 30th.

Hernandez told the girl he would help her pick the fruit but then stopped and allegedly performed oral sex on her.

A medical exam released on January 14th revealed that the girl had received a sexually-transmitted disease.

Deputies filed an aggravated sexual assault of a child charge against Hernandez.

Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual abuse but the records show that Hernandez had access to the girl through her family.

Hernandez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under a $100,000 dollar bond.
