A Rio Hondo mother is facing criminal charges after her 3-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets in the cold barefoot and without a jacket.
Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 22-year-old Mayra Perez on a child endangerment charge on Wednesday morning.
Court records revealed that deputies were called to Alfaro Road just outside Rio Hondo after a 3-year-old girl was found wandering the streets.
A woman called 911 after finding the girl wandering the streets in the cold weather barefoot and without a jacket.
Investigators learned that Perez went to work but asked her mother to watch her daughter.
Perez's mother wasn't home yet but Perez allegedly left the 3-year-old girl home alone with an elderly, bedridden relative.
Cameron County Jail records show Perez was released after posting a $7,500 dollar bond on Thursday afternoon.
