The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees ( 17-15-4, 38 pts) held on for a 6-5 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays Tuesday night.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX -- Jesse Bennefield (2-2-4) and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller (2-1-3) paced RGV with multiple-point effort, while Aaron Lee’s power play goal at 15:23 of the third held up as the game-winner.

The win moved RGV to within one point of fourth place Laredo and created separation between the Killer Bees, Amarillo (36 points) and Corpus Christi (35 points).

RGV led 2-1 after the first on goals by Goeckner-Zoeller and Sean Muncy, but the IceRays battled back to take a 3-2 lead on a pair of power play tallies by Chad Woolard, who took the CHL goal-scoring lead with his second goal (21).

Bennefield tied things at 7:38 with his 20th goal and Goeckner-Zoeller gave the Killer Bees the lead heading into the third with his second of the night and 18th of the season with 1:14 left in the middle stanza.

Bennefield made it a 5-3 game with his 21st goal to tie Woolard’s CHL lead at 7:27, but Woollard responded just 26 seconds later, again on the power play, to pull the IceRays within a goal and retake the league goal-scoring lead.

Lee scored on the power play to make it a 6-4 game, but again Corpus answered back with an extra attacker goal by Adam Powell to make it a one-goal game.

The Killer Bees visit Bossier-Shreveport on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
