BROWNSVILLE -- Scorpion pitcher Julian Moya was chosen Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week while teammate outfielder Jacob Yousif shared the RRAC Player of the Week honors for the week of March 23-29.

Jeff Sakowski of Northwood University shared the offensive award with Yousif.

Moya, a junior pitcher from Brownsville, claimed the victory in the first game of the Scorpions' series with Huston-Tillotson University March 27. In seven innings of work, he struck out nine batters and walked three while surrendering only three hits and a run for the 7-1 win. Moya leads the RRAC in wins (6), ERA (2.47), innings pitched (54 2/3) and strikeouts per nine innings (13.3).

The strikeouts per nine innings mark is third-best in the NAIA.

It was the fourth time this season that Moya had received the award and fifth time for a Scorpion pitcher.

Yousif, a senior right-fielder from Surrey, British Columbia, drove in eight runs in a 3-2 week for the Scorpions. He belted a home run and scored twice as UTB/TSC lost a pair of games to NCAA Division I opponent, New Mexico State University to open the week. In a three-game conference sweep of HTU over the weekend, Yousif was 6-for-12 with a homer, two doubles and 6 RBI. He scored four runs in the five-game stretch and was 7-for-17 at the plate overall.

The Scorpions lead the RRAC South Zone with a 5-1 record and are 20-20 on the season.
