San Antonio Madison running back Marquis Warford ran roughshod over Sharyland with two TD runs of 70+ yards, and the Rattlers first loss of the season was also their last, finishing 2012 with a 12-1 record.

Facing a team with four Division I football players on it is hard enough, but Sharyland must do not only that when they take on San Antonio Madison in the third round of the playoffs Friday,but also do it without one of their top offensive weapons, injured in the Rattlers' previous game.

Sharyland had already proven they were the best team in the Rio Grande Valley this season with an 11-0 record on their resume, but any doubters had to admit it as well after the Rattlers took down the top local team for the previous three years, Harlingen, and doing it in dominating fashion.

The Sharyland Rattlers went 3 years between losses in District 30-5A, but in the end, it was McAllen Memorial quarterback Matthew Kaufmann bookending that streak. Kaufmann, who as a freshman, beat Sharyland in 2008, helped stop the Rattlers district dominance with 164 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground in Mustangs 28-14 win that kept Memorial undefeated at 7-0.

Despite meeting for two-and-a-half hours on Tuesday, the 30-5A District Executive Committee made up of high school principals was unable to come to an agreement on what should be done concerning the Sharyland assistant coach who made rude gestures at the Donna sidelines after the Rattlers last-second win over the Redskins. Now the matter will have to go before the UIL disciplinary committee in Austin.
