When former Texas Longhorns coach Darrell Royal passed away at the age of 88 from complications from Alzheimer's Disease, many college football fans remembered him as the innovator of the wishbone offense and a winner of multiple national titles. Rio Grande Valley fans also recall that Royal coached many of the best football players to ever come from this area.

Port Isabel was down to La Feria 14-0 after one quarter, but then the Tarpons woke up, at one point scoring on 6 straight drives spanning the 3rd and 4th quarters and, with this win, took sole possession of first place in District 32-3A.

While the "Battle of 506" has been one of the Valley's livliest rivalries over the years, it's also been decidedly one-sided, as Santa Rosa has only won 9 of their previous 50 meetings with La Feria, and none in the last 20 years. But that all changed Friday, as the Warriors defeated the Lions for the 1st time since 1992.
