Action 4 Sports first brought you the news a few weeks ago that McAllen Rowe lineman Adonis Cruz had made the THSCA state all-star team, this week, the complete rosters were unveiled, and Cruz will be joined by two other Valley all-stars at TCU in July: McAllen Memorial lineman Tim Ruiz and Edinburg forward Gabriel Rivas, who made the all-star basketball team.

Edinburg Bobcats defensive tackle Isaiah Galvan signed a scholarship offer to play football at Chadron State College, a Division II program located in the northwest corner of Nebraska. Galvan talked about his father's help in acheiving his goal of playing at the next level.

Edinburg Economedes had a 12-point lead over city rival Edinburg with just over 8 minutes to play in the 4th quarter, and it seemed the Jaguars had the game well in hand. But Bobcat Pride reared it's head, and 15 unanswered points later, Edinburg found itself with a huge win and back in the 30-5A playoff hunt.

From the moment Edinburg Vela High School opened it's doors two months ago, the SaberCats football team and it's fans had looked forward to playing tradition-rich Edinburg High. Be careful what you wish for. The Bobcats, unamused by the large 'V' burned into their campus stadium grass early Friday morning, took it out on Vela Friday night.

Friday night marks the first meeting between the Edinburg and Edinburg Vela football teams, and the budding rivalry would appear to have ratcheted up a level. Early this morning, Edinburg HS students discovered a large mark had been burned into the center of the on-campus stadium, a mark that looks remarkably like a 'V'. 'V' for Vela?

When the 5A All-State football teams were released on Thursday, defense was the name of the game, as the Valley put two defenders, Edinburg's Sal Martinez and Weslaco's Jose Montiel on the first team, while Pace safety Kyle Carter made second team. Of the 12 local players who made honorable mention, 6 were on offense, 6 on defense. 13-1 Harlingen placed five players on the all-state teams, the most of any Valley team, followed by McAllen Memorial & Weslaco who tied with three players apiece.
