After 25 years coaching in the Donna football program, the past 5 seasons as Redskins head coach, Manny Moreno has resigned his position in order to become the new Donna ISD athletic director, not only overseeing Donna high school's sports programs, but those of the new Donna North high school as well, the Chiefs will open their doors next fall.

The Juarez-Lincoln huskies needed to win to make the postseason for the 1st time in school history, and were ahead of traditional power Donna at halftime. But the second half belonged to the Redskins, who outscored Juarez-Lincoln 17-0 in the final two quarters to run their record to 9-1 while eliminating the Huskies.

When former Texas Longhorns coach Darrell Royal passed away at the age of 88 from complications from Alzheimer's Disease, many college football fans remembered him as the innovator of the wishbone offense and a winner of multiple national titles. Rio Grande Valley fans also recall that Royal coached many of the best football players to ever come from this area.
