Port Isabel and Rio Hondo have always had a heated rivalry, and the 2012 edition of the game was no different. The Tarpons were only ahead 14-7 until a 4th quarter surge resulted in 22 quick points. A fight broke out on the field, which resulted in the game being called before the 48 minutes was complete.

Not many expected Rio Hondo to win on the road in their first game without star quarterback Juan Puga, but the Bobcats surprised fans and foes alike with a last-second win at Hidalgo that earned RH the Rio Grande Valley Chevy dealers Team of the Week Award.
