Friday afternoon in London, Rio Grande City's Stephen Saenz represented Mexico in the 2012 Summer Olympic Men's Shot Put competition. Saenz scratched on his first and second throws, but marked an 18.65 meter throw on his second. Unfortunately, that was not enough to make the top 12 and qualify for the final.

Rio Grande City alum Stephen Saenz got the call from his mother before class at Auburn. "Check your email," she said. And when the former Rattler did, he got the good news: Saenz had been named to the Mexican Olympic team, and was going to the 2012 Games in London next month to throw the shot put.
