After being drafted by the Houston Astros in the 28th round, UTPA 3rd baseman and former Sharyland Rattler Angel Ibanez signed with Houston. But Ibanez said a move to a new conference by Pan-Am might have made his decision tougher.

For the first time in 6 years, Pan-American's baseball team had a player taken in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, and the UTPA coach hopes that's a trend that grows in upcoming seasons.

La Joya Coyotes pitcher Miguel "Mickey" Pena was drafted by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
Pena was taken by the Nationals with the 1st pick in the 5th round, 142nd pick overall.
