Harlingen South running back Jaedon Taylor ran for over 150 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Hawks stormed to a 56-0 lead at halftime over Brownsville Pace, then ran out the clock in the 2nd half.

McAllen Rowe was already up 14 points on Brownsville Pace two minutes after kickoff, and the Warriors never took their foot off the gas pedal, scoring 28 points in the 1st quarter, 49 in the 1st half, and a total of 85 points by the time the final gun sounded.

The (almost) completely renovated PSJA Stadium hosted it's newest home team to open the 2012 season, and PSJA Southwest did not disappoint, riding a 1-2 running back punch to the Javelinas' first win as a varsity team over Brownsville Pace.

When the 5A All-State football teams were released on Thursday, defense was the name of the game, as the Valley put two defenders, Edinburg's Sal Martinez and Weslaco's Jose Montiel on the first team, while Pace safety Kyle Carter made second team. Of the 12 local players who made honorable mention, 6 were on offense, 6 on defense. 13-1 Harlingen placed five players on the all-state teams, the most of any Valley team, followed by McAllen Memorial & Weslaco who tied with three players apiece.

The huge crowd was like one you'd see at a Harlingen home game, but the great turnout was for the Cardinals city-wide pep rally, attended also by some opposing football teams from across the Valley in a show of support.

The Sunday Sports Extra crew said before the Pace-Alexander matchup that the Vikings' key to victory was stopping Bulldogs RB Xavier Scaggs, and for the first 20 minutes of the game, Pace did exactly that. Unfortunately for the Vikings, they couldn't put a lid on him for the entire 48.

Brownsville Pace's defense controlled Laredo Alexander's offense for the 1st 20 minutes of Saturday's 5A area round playoff game, but the Vikings couldn't keep it up, and the Bulldogs eliminated Pace while staying unbeaten at 12-0.
