CHICAGO, IL -- Once again, Roberto Garza is proving the critics wrong.

While at Rio Hondo, a Marine recruiter famously told the Chiacgo Bears center to give up his football dreams because "Latinos don't play college football, much less make it to the NFL."

Oops.

When the Baltimore Ravens were looking at signing Garza as a free agent, they said the lack of an ACL in his knee would end his career.

6 years later, that one's out the door as well.

And before this season, when the Bears lost longtime center Olin Kreutz to free agency, the pundits and fans said Garza, moving over to that position from guard, would never fill Kreutz' shoes.

You think people would get tired of doubting big number 63.

But as the Rockford Register Star reports, Garza's teammates knew what the 11th-year lineman out of Texas A&M Kingsville could do.

“Since Day 1 of training camp, I’ve never had a problem with him, and never doubted what he could do in there. He’s a smart guy,” (Bears QB Jay) Cutler said. “He helps those guys out in a lot of ways. For him to step into that role when Olin (Kreutz) left speaks volumes about him as a person and a player.”

The faith in Roberto is paying off, the Chicago O-line had their best performance of the season this past Sunday in a 39-10 win over the Vikings.
