Authorities are investigating a fiery explosion allegedly caused by men trying to illegally tap into an oil pipeline south of the border in Rio Bravo.

PEMEX officials confirmed that the fire happened along the Cadereyta-Reynosa-Matamoros pipeline late Tuesday night.

No injuries are reported but investigators found four burned vehicles near the illegal siphon where the fire is believed to have started.

Officials temporarily shut down the 12-inch pipeline until they were sure it's safe again.

Police are investigating who the cars belonged to and who started the fire.

Mexican authorities continue to struggle against the theft of oil, natural gas and gasoline where a black market for those products continues to thrive south of the border.

According to PEMEX figures, at least 24 illegal siphons have been found along their pipelines in Tamaulipas since January.
