A San Benito man was arrested after he assaulted his wife in front of his children and resisted arrest.
Antonio Aguirre Hernandez Jr.’s wife was driving their family’s Ford F-150 when the assault occurred.
According to police, Hernandez wanted his wife to drive him to the store to buy more beer.
When she refused he grabbed the steering wheel, almost causing the car to crash.
Once their truck was pulled over to the side of the road, police said Hernandez punched his wife on the side of her face and hit her on the right side of her ribs with a beer bottle.
The children in the backseat jumped out of the car and ran to a nearby relative’s home. Police said in the process, the kids were almost struck by a car.
Hernandez fled the scene before officers arrived.
As officers searched the neighborhood, they saw Hernandez crawl underneath a house.
When he refused to get out from under the house, he was pulled out and placed in handcuffs.
