A San Antonio man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly stabbed his dog to death over chewed up headphones.

KENS 5 reports that neighbors alerted police who found a trail of blood leading from a dumpster to Juan Mendiola's apartment where they discovered his boxer whimpering and bleeding to death.

The dog had been stabbed several times in the neck.

"A suspect who was reported to have been striking the dog with a sheathed knife. The sheath actually failed and the knife went through and started striking the dog."

Tiger received emergency surgery but died from his injuries.

Juan Mendiola was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
