Authorities are investigating a drug smuggling incident where customs officers allegedly found 18.82 pounds of liquid meth inside a car's windshield wiper fluid reservoir.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 33-year-old Arnoldo Puente on federal drug charges Wednesday.
Court records show that Puente drove up from Mexico in a GMC Envoy at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.
Customs officers sent him to secondary inspection where a K-9 officer alerted authorities to something suspicious.
Authorities reported finding 18.82 pounds worth of liquid meth inside the car's windshield wiper fluid reservoir.
Puente allegedly told customs officers he was supposed to get paid $600 dollars to deliver drugs in his car but wasn't sure what kind he would be transporting.
The 33-year-old man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos in McAllen on Thursday morning.
Records show that Puente is an American citizen.
Judge Ramos denied bond for Puente until a court hearing set for January 2nd.
