A Cameron County man is behind bars after he allegedly admitted to inappropriate sexual contact with his 15-year-old girlfriend.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 25-year-old Francisco Javier Garcia on multiple criminal charges on Saturday afternoon.

Court records show that deputies were called to a home on South Browne Road just east of Brownsville to look for a 15-year-old runaway girl.

Garcia allegedly told deputies that he had been letting the girl stay at his family's home for the past two weeks.

The 25-year-old man told deputies that he and the girl had been dating for two years and that they had sex at least five times.

Deputies charged Garcia with harboring a runaway and five counts of sexual assault of a child.

Garcia remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail where he also has an U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer filed against him.
