Some 10 marching bands for the Rio Grande Valley will be competing against high schools from across the Lone Star State.

Valley schools had a strong showing at regional competitions in Laredo and Corpus Christi over the weekend.

Out of 32 Valley schools who competed, 10 of them are advancing to state:

• Harlingen
• Harlingen South
• San Benito
• Donna
• Hanna
• Lopez
• Rio Hondo
• Port Isabel
• La Grulla
• Hidalgo

UIL officials awarded the Harlingen Cardinals marching band first place at the regional competition in Laredo.

Officials have already released the schedule for the Tuesday, November 6th state competition in San Antonio.
