Dozens of people cheered on Dolores Huerta on Wednesday morning, as she unveiled the street named after her.
It was one of many accolades the civil rights icon picked up along her most recent visit to the Valley.
"Having this major street named in my name really signifies the path to justice for farm workers," she said.
Huerta’s fight for rights also includes the DREAM Act and her support for DREAMers.
She credited them for President Barack Obama's decision to grant them work permits.
"They've really shown the way they're the vanguard and, again, they show the example that if we come together, we organize, you can push you can make things happen for yourself," she added.
Though she supports the president's decision, Huerta said more needs to be done, and she actively seeks support for the DREAM Act and immigration reform.
However, the 82-year-old said such change can only happen with voters at the polls.
"Please get out there, make sure you register to vote, get your parents to vote so we can get really good public officials that will represent us," she concluded.
