The McAllen School Board was named Outstanding School Board of 2012 in the Texas Associations of School Administrators’ annual School Board Awards Program on Saturday.
They were one of five finalists of the State Honor Boards.
The Board went to Austin this weekend to attend the 52nd TASA/TASB Convention, a state conference for school administrators and school boards.
Back in July, the McAllen School Board was named Board of the Year for Region One, an area stretching from Laredo to Brownsville.
Since then, they were placed on the State Honor Board, alongside the four competing school boards.
The statewide finalists were Cedar Hill ISD, Klein ISD, Longview ISD and Northwest ISD.
The five boards were interviewed on Friday by a committee of Texas School superintendents, chaired by the superintendent of last year’s winning board, Karen Garza of Laredo ISD. The winner was announced Saturday morning.
