Tomas Mittnacht arrived on August 31st to fill the three-year position as the new Consul General of the United States.
Before coming to Matamoros, Mittnacht was as Information Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas.
Mittnacht’s first assignment was as Vice Consul in Monterrey. He then moved on to reporting on political and economic developments for the State Department in Croatia, Russia and Chile.
He has also served in Washington as Special Assistant to Under Secretary of State Paula Dobriansky, and was the Public Affairs Officer in Yerevan, Armenia.
“I am very happy to return to northeastern Mexico,” said Mittnacht. “My first job in the Foreign Service was in the city of Monterrey, where I made good friends. I’m sure I will do many more in my three years of stay in Matamoros.”
Mittnacht is a native of Wisconsin. He did his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Services and received his Master’s Degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton.
