An early Friday morning accident sends three passengers to the hospital, including a 1-year-old child.

The accident happened at 1:40 a.m. on the 15000 block of W. Expressway 83.

Harlingen police made contact with the driver of a Hummer H2 and the driver of a Chevrolet Van.

Investigators said both cars were traveling Eastbound when the Hummer was speeding and struck the van from behind.

The 33-year-old driver of the van, the 28-year-old and the 1-year-old passenger were all taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

Police believed the hummer driver, Javier Gonzalez, was intoxicated.

Gonzalez was administered a standardized field sobriety test.

After performing poorly on the tests, the 35-year-old was placed under arrest and taken to have blood drawn.

He was later taken to city jail and his bond was set at $15,000.
