Authorities are investigating the death of a San Benito teenager who was found dead inside his home.

San Benito police found the 16-year-old boy dead at a home on the 2200 block of Sam Houston Boulevard early Monday afternoon.

Investigators said the teen had a single gunshot wound to the head with an exit wound to the back of the head.

The teen’s body was found outside the home near a shed.

Next to his body was a shot gun which they say belonged to a family member.

At this time, police said it seems the shot was self-inflicted but are treating this as a homicide.

Police said they will not be releasing the name of the teen since he was a minor.

They said there are no suspects in connection to the shooting but are gathering information from family members.

A motive for the possible suicide has not been determined.

Police are examining the boy's cell phone and lap top for any clues in his death.
