Man dies after brutal fight outside Harlingen bar

Police arrested a Harlingen man following a deadly fight outside a the I-69 Sports Bar in Harlingen early Saturday morning.

According to police, Edelmiro Gaona Palomino, 38, got into a fight with Carlos Marchan Maya, 28, at the parking lot of the bar.

Witnesses reported that Maya had an argument with his girlfriend early Saturday morning.

At some point, Palomino decided to step in, in defense of the girlfriend.

He allegedly punched Maya in the face, which caused him to fall to the ground and hit his head.

His girlfriend and Palomino took Maya home, but then decided to take him to Valley Baptist Medical Center.

The staff called Harlingen Police, about 20 minutes later at 1:41, Maya was pronounced dead.

After interviewing the witnesses, including Maya's girlfriend, police obtained a warrant for Palomino's arrest.

Police said he is expected to face manslaughter charges and will be arraigned on Sunday.
