Storms leaves thousands of Valley residents without power

Thousands of homes and businesses are without power after a pre-dawn weather system swept across the Rio Grande Valley.

The rains started around 2 a.m. Friday and continued through sunrise.

AEP Texas reports that more than 4,100 homes and businesses are without power in Hidalgo County during the peak of the storm.

Almost 500 people were without power in Cameron County early Friday morning.

Magic Valley CO-OP reproted several hundred customers without power in Hidalgo County and dozens without power in Cameron County.

According to figures from AEP, the Corpus Christi area had between 8,000 and 9,000 customers without power early Friday morning.

Crews are working to restore power to the affected areas.

AEP customers are asked to call (866) 223-8508 or fill out the power outage form on their website.

Magic Valley CO-OP customers are asked to call (866) 225-5683 to report power outages.
