The sentencing trial is set to begin on Tuesday for the Brownsville teen that admitted to stabbing his girlfriend multiple times two in August of 2010.

Javier de la Rosa, 19, appeared before Judge Benjamin Euresti in the 107th District Court on Monday.

He pled guilty to stabbing 17-year-old Tiffany Galvan in the back, nearly 50 times, at Browne Park.

Defense and prosecution lawyers hashed out the details, before choosing the 12 men and women that will decide the fate of the former Lopez high school football player.

In early March, the 19-year-old took a plea deal in which he admitted guilt.

In exchange he will face standard murder charges, instead of capital murder, therefore making himself ineligible for the death penalty.

De la Rosa now faces up to 99 years in prison.

The sentencing trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 9 a.m.
