They’ve been flipping burgers in Brownsville for nearly 40 years.

Ernie’s Hamburger Stand is known by locals as the place to go to get their meat fix on.

It’s also comforting to learn how the meat is coming from a clean kitchen, according to Daniel Rodriguez.

“I’ve been coming here for years,” he said.  “Even top restaurants don’t have the clean they do.”

The hamburger stand on 3001 Stanolind Avenue is a top performer with zero demerits on a health report.

The Food Patrol personally awarded owner Maria Rodriguez a sticker while she was working in the kitchen.

“Everyone likes to know about it [sticker]… so they’ll find out we’re doing it right,” Maria explained with a smile.

Her son Ernie said the public reaction to his 2009 sticker was overwhelming.

“We keep it clean all the time,” he said.

Ernie feels the new 2012 sticker will generate quite a buzz.

Other kitchens weren’t so lucky.
