Delta Airlines is pulling out of McAllen’s Miller International Airport on May 1st.
The airport posted the announcement on its Facebook fan page around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the Facebook post, Delta notified the airport that the airline’s operations would cease on May 1st.
Delta airlines told the airport that the number of passengers for its planes only averaged 60 percent at the McAllen airport.
Airline officials told Miller International Airport that planes need to be 75 percent full to be profitable.
Delta has implemented a passenger protection agreement with United/Continental and American Airlines.
The agreement ensures that any flights which have been booked through Delta for May 1st or beyond will be re-booked on another airline minimizing any disruption of services for passengers.
Airport officials are asking concerned Rio Grande Valley residents to contact Delta Airlines at (800) 221-1212.
