(AP) -- BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- A priest is urging students in Texas to learn from the death of an eighth-grader who was shot by police after pointing what was later identified as a pellet gun at them.
The Rev. Jorge Gomez spoke in English and Spanish to hundreds of people who packed a Brownsville church Saturday morning for the funeral for 15-year-old Jaime Gonzalez.
Gomez says he knows it's not easy to be a teenager, but it doesn't last forever and he wants other teens to "get out of trouble. Don't get lost."
Police were called to the school Wednesday morning with a report that a student had a gun.
Police say Gonzalez refused repeated requests to drop the weapon before he was shot twice in the torso.
His parents say lethal force wasn't necessary.
