Several people have been rushed to local hospitals following an auto accident involving an 18-wheeler in Weslaco.

It all happened on the eastbound lanes of Expressway 83 near Westgate Drive around 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

An 18-wheeler crashed into a Cadillac on the expressway.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers aid several people have been injured.

The extent of their injuries were not immediately available but they were all reported as receiving medical attention.

A large amount of diesel fuel reportedly spilled over the highway.

Traffic is backed up on the expressway all the way to Donna.

Authorities are asking people to avoid the area while they clear the scene.
