Weslaco police are asking for the public’s help in finding the family of a special needs teen who was found wandering near the Hidalgo International Bridge.

Border Patrol agents found the hearing and speech-impaired teen just east of the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Wednesday.

The teen was taken to the Weslaco Border Patrol station where agents learned he was not in their system.

Border Patrol agents dropped him off at a local bus station where concerned citizens called Weslaco police hours later.

The teen spent Wednesday night at the Weslaco Police Department where detectives are trying to learn his identity and get him back to his family.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a sign-language volunteer came into the station but they were still unable to communicate with the teen.

Police do not know the teen's name or true age.

Detectives have also shown the teen maps and pictures of local landmarks but he has not responded.

Anyone who recognizes the young man, is asked to call the Weslaco Police Department at (956) 968-8591.
