Child critically injured in Hidalgo Co. car crash

Five children, a mom and grandmother are recovering after a major car accident Saturday afternoon.

One child is reported to be in critical condition.

The accident happened on FM 493 and Mile 11 1/2.

According to the Department of Public Safety, all seven were taken to Knapp Medical Center.

According to DPS, some of the children were buckled in a seat belt, and others were not.

The children are said to range in age from seven months to five-years-old.

DPS said the group was in an SUV and tried making a U-turn.

They were reportedly rear-ended.

The driver that allegedly rear ended them is said to be doing alright.

The Department of Public Safety, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department and the Donna Fire Department all responded to the scene.
